World Renowned Architects Assembled at the “South Sea Pearl”
 
The International Competition for the South Sea Pearl Eco-Island, a major project of Hainan Province, was successfully launched on 3rd June 2016. Hosted by HNA Infrastructure, organized by HNA Design and co-organized by the China Building Centre, inviting Mr. Vicente Guallart, former chief architect of Barcelona City Council as chief consultant and ten worldwide architectural firms to participate, looking for innovative and feasible schemes and strategies to create an international tourist island for future cities and lifestyle.  Hosted by Ms. Liu Qing, executive editor-in-chief of Urban Environment Design Magazine, the launch ceremony was attended by Mr. Hu Daili, vice president of HNA Infrastructure and president of HNA Property, Mr. Fan Ning, vice president of HNA Infrastructure and president of Guangdong HNA Infrastructure and Mr. Huang Jinhe, vice president of HNA Haijian Construction and president of Tianjin HNA Design.

About the South Sea Pearl Ecological Island
As the major project of HNA, the South Sea Pearl Ecological Island will play an important role in the economic development of Haikou and construction of Hainan as an international tourist destination. As a crucial link on the 21st century’s Maritime Silk Road, Hainan International Tourist Island will become a flagship of international tourism featuring ecology, culture, cruise, health and cuisine.
Divided into Phase 1 of 49.3 ha. and Phase 2 of 216.1 ha., the project occupies a total sea area of 459.3 ha.. The total reclaimed land accounts for 265.4ha. and is now in the process of ground foundation treatment. With state-of-the-art ideas of design, tourist culture and green development through collaboration with world’s best architects and technological enterprises, this island will fitted with a cruise terminal designed and managed by leading companies in the field and a mixed-use program of entertainment, business and leisure that will allow the conversion of the South Sea Pearl Eco-Island into an icon of ecological tourism in China and internationally.
  
With its superior location as well as transportation and maritime resources, the island will tap into its strategic advantages to turn itself into an ecological tourist destination of global importance and a beacon of the Maritime Silk Road in Haikou Bay at the north of Hainan.
