“Design for Qingdao” International Bay City and Architecture Forum was co-hosted by Qingdao Municipal Commission of Urban-Rural Development, Qingdao Urban Planning Bureau and China Building Centre. The State Council has set Qingdao’s development target as Coastal Tourist City, International Port City and National Famous Historic and Cultural City. In the light of this instruction, the forum brought together policymakers and experts from across the fields of coastal city, urban regeneration, eco-city development and architectural design to examine best practices and enlighten the future of Qingdao.
The “Design for Qingdao” forum invited representatives of Shandong provincial government, Qingdao municipal government, influential architects and planners including Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, directors of planning bureaus, chief architects from design institute as well as leading urban scholars around China. The forum also attracted around 1000 participants in building, planning, real estate and other related industries, gathering practitioners, academics, officials, investors and citizens alike. It was hoped that this forum would present an opportunity to engage key policymakers and other interested parties, and that decision-makers could be exposed to a cluster of pioneer architectural and planning ideas.
