On September 24, Lingnan International Architects’ Village Press Conference and “Design Changes Countryside” Symposium were launched in Guangzhou. Established at Gangtou Village, Huadong Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou, Lingnan International Architects’ Village strives to activate villages through the joint efforts of design and innovation. It aims to redefine the value of the spaces through architecture education, meanwhile explores a sustainable and systematic path of beautiful countryside through design, culture and art.

Gangtou Village is a 600-year old traditional village in Huadu District, Guangzhou. It well preserves a large number of historic buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republican Period, known as an “open-air museum of Lingnan architecture”.

He Jingtang, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., South China University of Technology (SCUT), and Honorary Dean of SCUT School of Architecture, addressed the press conference and inaugurated the Beautiful Countryside Project of Lingnan International Architects’ Village. The Co-organizer CBC elaborated the visions of Lingnan International Architects’ Village and proposed a new mode for all-round development of the beautiful countryside.
After that, Zhu Xiaodi, Chief Architect of Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. (BIAD), delivered remarks and announced the launch of “Q Village · Gangtou” International Young Designer Competition on behalf of the Master Workshop clustered design teams of Lingnan International Architect’s Village

“Design Changes Countryside” Symposium
In the afternoon, “Design Changes Countryside” Symposium was open. Guest speakers invited to deliver keynote speeches at the Symposium included Hu Yue, National Engineering Survey and Design Master, Zhu Xiaodi, BIAD Chief Architect, Li Baofeng, professor of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xian Jianxiong, Executive Partner of Guangzhou Janson Xian Architect + Associates, Li Ji, Founder of Origin Architect, and Zhuang Ziyu, partner of RSAA. Together with other experts and scholars, they examined issues currently facing the development of Chinese villages in a global context, interpreted influential and representative projects around the world, and explored to integrate more diversified and forward-looking solutions of international vision with the construction of beautiful countryside in Lingnan region.

The press conference and symposium marked the official debut of the Beautiful Countryside Project of Lingnan International Architects’ Village. The Project aims to, with a long-term perspective and all-around thinking mode, explore a sustainable and systematic development path for beautiful countryside, where architectural education serves as the first mover to “change the countryside with design, restore it with art, guide it with culture and regenerate it with industries”.
